Action Plan to fulfill Aoun’s “Peace Treaty” with birds in Lebanon

As a follow-up to the recent letter from Patricia Zurita Chief Executive Officer of Birdlife International to Mrs. Claudine Aoun Roukoz, the Special Advisor to His Excellency General Michel Aoun, a meeting was held in the Presidential Palace in Baabda.

The aim of the meeting is  to focus all efforts needed from All concerned parties , on how to translate The Lebanese President Campaign “ to protect the migrating birds over Lebanon , and reach a peace agreement with the trees and birds”.

The focused group participants included: Assad Serhal – SPNL director general, Andre Bechara- SPNL expert, Marc Asmar and Nour Merhi from Urban pros, Lara Samaha from the Ministry of Environment, Chadi Mohanna and Elias Ibrahim from the Ministry of Agriculture, Marcos Hado, Colonel Jihad Saliba, and Colonel Mansour Nabhan.

Mrs. Claudine ,welcomed and briefed the participants for the aim of this focused group meeting, that started at 2:00 and ended 4:30pm, Tuesday , 18 April , 2017. The group discussed the readiness to reach the dates announced for the official hunting season opening from 15 September 2016 to 31 January 2017 , with the Lebanese people , especially the hunters community are all aware about the new hunting law 580 and its application degrees .

A lengthly discussions , were given on each of the present participants roles & responsibilities , especially in relation to raising awareness , building capacities for the hunting law enforcement authorities , needed very well planed and focused media campaign.

It was agreed , for SPNL to develop and coordinate a 3 Years Road Map and Action Plan , by the end of May , 2017, stating clearly , the needed activities , roles and responsibilities, and the needed budget.

SPNL/Birdlife will try compiling the Action Plan by the end of the May, to be presented in the event titled “Responsible Hunting National Conference.
