Minister Machnouk launches NatureWatch App

The Lebanese minister of Environment Mohamad Machnouk launched NatureWatch App in a ceremony held the in the Green Hall at the Ministry of Environment’s headquarters in Beirut.

NatureWatch is a new iPhone App from BirdLife International and SPNL which allows you to plan your wildlife adventures, share your experiences, and help conserve some of the best sites for wildlife in the world.

Machnouk welcomed journalists who are an essential part of this environmental initiative. Every Lebanese  should download this App and use it in his trips, in order to provide immediate reports on IBAs through the images that captures the reality and become a direct witness to what’s happening.

Whether good or bad we will make sure to followup on every complaint, especially that we have now Public prosecutors dedicated to environmental crime. Machnouk added. 

“Covering 533 Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas in Australia, Cyprus, Fiji, Lebanon, Malaysia and South Africa, NatureWatch gives people who care about these sites a global voice”, said Assad Serhal Director General of SPNL. By downloading NatureWatch from the App Store, you can easily find all the information you need to enjoy your next adventure through accessing the latest maps, information sheets and sightings from each site. Serhal added.

“The new App also allows you to share your magical moments with nature as they happen with your family, friends, colleagues and other NatureWatch users. NatureWatch users can view lists of key bird species at each site, share their latest sightings and report any threats to the sites in real time”. Said Bassam Alkantar a prominent Lebanese journalist and the SPNL’s media campaigner.

NatureWatch has been generously supported by the IBAT Alliance (BirdLife International, Conservation International, IUCN and UNEP-WCMC), the Aage V. Jensen Foundation and UK Darwin Initiative, and has been developed in Partnership with BirdLife Partners in Australia, Cyprus, Fiji, Lebanon, Malaysia and South Africa.
