President Aoun calls on authorities to protect migratory birds

President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, highlighted Sunday “the need not to harm bird flocks with the approach of the migratory birds’ season, as the number of birds crossing the skies of Lebanon increases.”

In an issued statement by the Presidency Information Office this afternoon, the President called on the competent Lebanese authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent shooting at birds, while punishing violators in accordance with the stipulated laws.

In this connection, Aoun called for “rendering Lebanon a safe passage for migratory birds that are forbidden for hunting, being a global wealth that belongs to everyone.”

On 20 February 2018, just a few days before the start of the spring bird migration, 52 signatories from 28 countries – mostly leading non-governmental organisations in the field of bird protection in their respective countries, hoped that  President Aoun will ensure implementing the hunting law, in order that migrating birds will have a free and safe flyway over Lebanon.
