Please Mr. President Aoun make the sky over Lebanon safe for migratory birds!

Just a few days before the start of the spring bird migration over Your country, 52 signatories from 28 countries – mostly leading non-governmental organisations in the field of bird protection in their respective countries in Europe – are sending, President of Lebanon, his Excellency General Michel Aoun, their joint appeal in the attached letter, all hoping that, starting this spring, migrating birds will have a free and safe flyway over Lebanon.

22 December 2017  was an important day for SPNL welcoming Aitanite’s municipal council decree to declare the village as Hima. The municipal council, , led by M. Assaad Najem, was proactive in declaring part of the municipal land as Hima for sustainable use such as ecotourism, responsible hunting, and grazing.

AUB students assess the Landscape of Shemlan and ecotourism trails of Hima Kayfoun

Professor Architect Maria Gabriella Trovato with her students at the Architect and Landscape Department in the American University of Beirut (AUB) visited Shemlan village – Kaza Aley. The main purpose of the visit was to assess and analyze the Landscape of Shemlan, especially after announcing the neighboring village Kayfoun as a Hima and initiating ecotourism trails between the two villages.

Empowering Local communities for Watershed Management in West Bekaa through Hima Approach

The Society for The Protection of Nature in Lebanon-SPNL will be working with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation- SDC in partnership with the Bekaa Water Establishment- BWE on a new project entitled ” Empowering Local communities, especially Youth and Women for Watershed Management in West Bekaa region through Hima Approach” aiming to promote conservation of West Bekaa region water resources (watershed of Chouf Mountain Landscape) through empowering local youth as leaders for change, and strengthening their relationship with their spring/river; thus creating spring/river stewardship.

The Eurasian Skylark still faces a number of threats in Lebanon

The Eurasian Skylark is a small passerine bird from the Alaudidae family. It measures 18 cm in length, with a wingspan of 39 cm, and an average weight of 40 g.
Like most larks, the Eurasian Skylark is a brown to sandy grey bird, it has a buff breast with dark streaks, a white belly, and a short foldable crest on the head.
