Japan Supports Water management project in Hima Kfar Zabad

Through the generous support of the Japanese Embassy “Grass Roots’’ fund, SPNL has recently signed a new project with the Embassy of Japan titled “Water Rehabilitation and Management at Hima Kfar Zabad Wetlands and Springs “.

Munjez claimed as a New Hima

SPNL has started collaborating with the Munjez local authorities and community in its mission to protect the environment by promoting the Hima system. The revival of the Hima system is empowering communities to take responsibility for managing local resources. This approach is being championed by the Society for Protection of Nature in Lebanon (BirdLife in Lebanon)

OTI-Hima Project contributes to the livelihood empower in Al-Fekhaa and Anjar Kfar Zabad

The Bekaa region represent one of the highly affected areas by the Syrian Crisis, where around two million Syrians are estimated to be present in this area. In order to mitigate the crisis tensions in this area & reduce resource and economic strains on the affected Hima communities,namely Hima Alfekha and Hima Anjar and Kfar Zabad , SPNL and through the generous support of OTI Lebanon is working on meeting the livelihood stresses through the project titled “Vocational Trainings on Carpet Weaving in el-Fekha Village and pruning in Aanjar/Kfar Zabad”.

SPNL Selected to participates in ENTIRE project on Stakeholders Dialogue in Water Management

Through the project titled “Empowering regional civil society networks to take an active role in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Southern Mediterranean Region (ENTIRE”)”, SPNL participated in the Entire training workshop titled “Working with Stakeholders Dialogue in IWRM” which took place from 9 to 10 February in Amman Jordan . The following workshop highlighted on applying stakeholders tools in Water Resources Management. Through the following workshop SPNL presented its success stories in using stakeholders dialogue under the Hima approach

MAVA project success story continues in Hima Anjar

Through the generous support of the MAVA foundation, SPNL has been implementing since January 2013, the project titled “Restoring Hima Ecosystem functions though promoting sustainable community -based water management systems” in the Hima IBA of Anjar and Kfar Zabad”. The first year’s project interventions focused on improving the agriculture water management in Hima Anjar through several intervention with the municipality, farmers, water users association, environmental committee and locals.

SEARCH Educational Workshop: Providing knowledge today to achieve future sustainability

As part of the SEARCH project, an educational workshop was held in Andeket, Upper Akkar. The project which is funded by the European Union, and coordinated by the IUCN, aims to increase social and ecological resilience in watershed ecosystems of the Mediterranean Region in the face of climate and other drivers of change.

Landscape Character Assessment Project

Two members of SPNL attended a kick off meeting in Cyprus for a new project called Landscape Character Assessment (Medscapes). MedScapes is an innovative project that has just started and comprises a multidisciplinary approach. It presupposes cross-border cooperation between neighboring Mediterranean European and third party countries. The project aims to develop and apply a best-practice methodology for East-Mediterranean Landscape Character Assessment

Local stork hunting sparks outrage abroad

Every year, white storks make their spring migration from Africa to Europe, flying hundreds of kilometers across the Lebanese coast, a key migratory corridor for many birds. This year, however, some of them will not make it home, but will instead fall prey to Lebanese hunters who remain oblivious to the poorly implemented hunting ban in the country. The white stork, which has long been depicted in children’s literature and films as the deliverer of babies, is a long-necked wading bird that travels over Lebanese beaches during the months of March and April in order to mate in Europe, where families and farmers eagerly await their arrival.
