Join us for a celebration of the miracle of migration, birds and birding!

Dear Partners,We would love for you to join us in mid-October for a week-long global celebration of migration, birds and birding.

We’re kicking things off on Saturday 10 October with World Migratory Bird Day, an annual celebration of the amazing endurance of migratory birds as they travel between their breeding and wintering grounds.

On 17 and 18 October, we’ve joined forces with Global Birding, Swarovski Optik and eBird to launch Global Bird Weekend, the biggest ever global bird watching event.

Read on to find out how you can get involved!

World Migratory Bird Day
Saturday 10 October 2020

This year, we’ll be celebrating World Migratory Bird Day through a number of events, both globally and regionally.

There will be a public webinar on Wednesday 14 October (date may change) showcasing how migratory birds connect our world, and how our Partnership enables us to protect migratory species on the perilous journey between their breeding and wintering grounds.

We’ll also be providing some exciting promotional materials that can be used to showcase the power of our Partnership and the beauty of migration on your social media channels.

We’ll send a more detailed message on the global webinar and communications pack soon. Plans for regional events and activities will be shared through your Regional Flyway Coordinators.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Barend van Gemerden.

Global Bird Weekend
17-18 October 2020

This high profile global event brings the world’s birders together to celebrate birding, set some new world records and raise funds for BirdLife’s ‘Stop the Illegal Bird Trade in Asia’ campaign.

We hope you will consider entering your own national team in the event and use this opportunity to encourage your members and supporters to join your organisation in this celebration of birds, birding and conservation.

We’ll be sending a more detailed communication on the event and how you and your members can get involved next week. In the meantime, please take a look at the Global Bird Weekend website.

Questions about the Global Bird Weekend can be directed to Jim Lawrence.

The Covid-19 Crisis has had a devastating impact on us all, but it has also been a catalyst for discussions on the links between human health and the health of our planet, and has inspired many people to connect more with nature. It has shown us that we all are connected and that unless we work together we won’t succeed.

Birds connect our world and there has never been a more important time to celebrate them and the power of the BirdLife Partnership. We can’t wait to share in this celebration with all of you in October.

All the best,
