Anahita In Prague Zoo

The story of Anahita excited thousands of people around the world. Remember that she was tagged with a GPS transmitter in Bulgaria but shot by poachers in Lebanon during her first migration in 2020. Against all odds, she was rescued and brought to life, thanks to SPNL anti-poaching unit.

A few months ago, Anahita successfully returned to Europe and was hosted by Prague Zoo. She underwent another surgery, so now she can walk normally again, and some of the lead pellets were removed from her body.

Now she will enter into the species breeding program, and her offspring one-day will be rereleased again where her roots are – in Bulgaria to support the recovery of the species. Anahita is now blossoming and enjoying life with the other Egyptian Vultures in Prague Zoo.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
