SPNL mourns the loss of Martin Abbas Hellicar the director of Birdlife Cyprus

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon is grieving the loss of some of its most prominent partners after the highly respected environmentalist and journalist Martin Abbas Hellicar died on Saturday, aged 56.
“SPNL mourns the loss of great partners who helped protect the environment of our beloved Mediterranean and highlights the importance of our biodiversity and Hima approach. Martin’s legacy is immense and will continue to inspire. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues now.” Said Assad Serhal, SPNL Director General.
He passed away in hospital, where he was being treated after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident almost two weeks ago.
Martin was the director of the non-governmental conservation organization Birdlife Cyprus and had previously worked as a journalist for the Cyprus Mail for a period of ten years from the early nineties.
Always a passionate ornithologist, moving to BirdLife Cyprus was his dream job. He has worked for the organization in various roles since 2003, leaving a lasting impact on our conservation efforts.
SPNL/Birdlife Lebanon mourns Martin, a partner, lifelong friend.
He devoted his life to birds, nature, and the people within the Birdlife family with unwavering dedication and long-lasting friendship.
We here at Birdlife Lebanon remember him with more commitment to Birdlife and our common legacies ❤️ for a better life on earth for all.
