By tracking bird species and their movements, you can help protect our planet’s biodiversity.
You can even supercharge your impact by asking friends, colleagues and family members to sponsor your weekend through fundraising to help raise the vital funds needed for bird conservation around the world.
At BirdLife International, our work has helped over 700 threatened bird species survive, but we can’t do it alone.Â
To safeguard the birds and habitats that need our help around the world, we use data.
One of our resources is eBird. It helps us map species ranges and estimate their populations and trends so that we can make Red List Assessments and identify Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) and Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs).

What is Global Bird Weekend?
It is brought to you by Global Birding, in assosciation with Swarovski Optik, powered by eBird and supporting BirdLife International. It takes place from 11-13 October.
Global Bird Weekend is a chance to connect with nature, unite with like-minded people around the world and make a difference by supporting conservation globally. By participating, you will be taking part in October Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day, both of which take place on 12 October.
No matter your circumstances, there is something for everyone to enjoy during Global Bird Weekend.
Birdwatch to make a difference
On October 12, see how many bird species you can find in 24 hours, and log it on eBird to be a citizen scientist for the day. Your sightings provide the crucial data we need to protect even more birds worldwide and the habitats they depend upon.
