SPNL Hosts Training Session on Proposal Writing

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues to strengthen its team’s skills in project development and implementation. On Monday, 24 February 2025, Farah Alkansa, a key member of SPNL’s Programme Development Team, led an insightful training session on “How to Write a Proposal” at the Keyfoun Office, with a special contribution by Mazen Yassin, who covered the critical aspects of financial commitment and reporting for project implementation.

Enhancing Proposal Writing & Project Execution Skills

The interactive two-hour session focused on equipping participants with the tools needed to draft compelling proposals and manage project finances and reporting effectively.

Key topics covered included:
The essentials of project development and how to structure strong proposals.
Common proposal sections and best practices for crafting persuasive applications.
Understanding the role of AI tools like ChatGPT—their limitations and effectiveness in proposal writing.
Exploring different proposal templates and adapting them to funding requirements.
Self-assessment techniques to improve proposal quality.
Defining individual roles in project implementation—field officers, research, M&E, finance, project coordinators, and managers.

Financial Commitment & Reporting – A Key Component

As part of the training, Mazen Yassin provided a comprehensive session on financial accountability and reporting requirements for project implementation. He emphasized:
📊 The importance of financial transparency in donor-funded projects.
💰 Budget planning and compliance with funding agreements.
📑 Accurate and timely reporting as a key factor for successful project execution.

Mazen Yassin stated:
“Strong financial management and transparent reporting are essential to maintaining donor trust and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our conservation projects.”

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) has released the sixth issue of Al Hima magazine, focusing on the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi (October 8–15, 2025), where SPNL will join four key sessions. The issue features an exclusive interview with IUCN President Razan Al Mubarak, who emphasizes aligning IUCN’s work with global biodiversity agendas, governance, member responsiveness, multilateral engagement, ethical use of technology, and amplifying diverse voices.
