A Field Trip Connecting Mothers with Nature and History in Hima Baisour

A group of mothers from the Lebanese Evangelical School for Boys and Girls – Loueizeh, accompanied by relatives and friends, embarked on a remarkable field trip to Hima Baisour, where they enjoyed a day rich in nature, history, and culture. The trip was guided by  Hamadeh Molaeb, project manager of Doroub Al-Hima at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL). The visit included hiking in Darb Al-Talleh, one of the trails officially recognized as an eco-tourism path by the Ministry of Tourism.

Starting Point: Mount Lebanon Hima Center in Kayfoun

The journey began with a visit to the Mount Lebanon Hima Center in Kayfoun, affiliated with SPNL. Participants learned about various environmental conservation efforts aimed at protecting Lebanon’s biodiversity. The visit included an awareness session on migratory birds, endangered turtles, and butterflies, along with discussions on ecosystem conservation strategies and the environmental challenges facing the region.

Hiking Darb Al-Talleh in the Radar Baisour Area

The group then embarked on a hike along Darb Al-Talleh, located in the Radar Baisour area. This officially recognized eco-tourism trail is known for its beauty, cleanliness, and ease of access. During the hike, participants enjoyed breathtaking natural scenery, discovered local plant species, and explored the diverse wildlife of the region.

A Visit to Al-Burj Al-Aali Palace

The next stop was a visit to Al-Burj Al-Aali Palace, where the owner’s daughter warmly welcomed the group and provided a detailed historical overview of the palace, one of the region’s most significant landmarks. She also highlighted the conservation efforts undertaken to preserve this historic site, adding a rich cultural dimension to the trip.

Experiencing Local Hospitality & Supporting the local Community

In a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, the group headed to the town center to enjoy a traditional breakfast featuring freshly baked manakish. This added an authentic touch to the experience. The group also visited the Baisour Women’s Association Center, where they purchased handcrafted local products, supporting Lebanese artisanal industries and enjoying the high quality of handmade goods.

Final Stop: Dr. Jamil Molaeb Museum

The grand finale of the trip was a visit to the Dr. Jamil Molaeb Museum, one of the region’s cultural landmarks. The museum houses an exceptional collection of paintings and sculptures that reflect Lebanon’s rich artistic heritage. It showcases the works of Dr. Jamil Molaeb, one of the most renowned visual artists in Lebanon and the Arab world. Through his paintings and sculptures, he masterfully captures the essence of rural life and Lebanese nature, making the museum a must-visit cultural and artistic destination.

End of the Trip & A Promise to Return

By the end of the day, the participants expressed their immense joy over this unique experience, emphasizing their eagerness to return to visit the town again. They extended their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organization and success of this memorable trip.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
