Awareness and Training Session for Children at Beit Al Shabab Wal Thaqafa – Zouk Mikael

At the invitation of Beit Al Shabab Wal Thaqafa at the Municipality of Zouk Mikael, the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) organized a special awareness and training session for children aged 9 to 13, as part of its mission to promote environmental awareness and instill a sense of responsibility toward nature and wildlife.

The session focused on the importance of protecting birds and biodiversity, highlighting them as vital elements in safeguarding our future. The program featured interactive activities, including field investigation skills through a “Search and Analysis” game, as well as practical training in archery and blowgun shooting (fouqiya).

The session was led by Shireen Bou Rfoul, Head of the APU and Director of the Lebanon Office at CABS, with the participation of Maroun Bou Rfoul, a field investigator and member of the joint APU-CABS operations team. Together, they presented environmental topics in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.

The practical training activities were conducted by Naram and Ninar Al-Khatib, APU trainers specializing in youth engagement. They skillfully transformed theoretical concepts into fun and interactive learning experiences for children.

The session stood out for its vibrant atmosphere, marked by enthusiasm and a spirit of friendly competition among the young participants—whether through information-sharing or in the hands-on archery and blowgun exercises. The event successfully combined education and entertainment to deepen children’s understanding of the value of nature conservation.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
