During this meeting, it was agreed that this charter shall include the following commitments:

  • Organizing and reviving scientific programs and diverse activities targeting all segments and communities, to protect the “Hima and its trails”, enhance expertise in sustainable use, attract and guide visitors, and create job opportunities that contribute to the local economy. These efforts also aim to improve communal life and summer appeal, promote local heritage tourism and production, bridge the economic gap caused by the country’s crisis, reduce internal and external migration, and encourage permanent return to our homeland.

  • Building trust among communities, and fostering communication and cooperation to protect our region and its nature, and to uphold social peace and stability.

  • Strengthening the role of youth and women, and energizing social, cultural, creative, and sports engagement.

  • Establishing and integrating environmentally friendly projects that invest in nature and its beauty as a sustainable component of the economy and human development.

  • Collaborating with schools to develop the “Schools Without Walls” program in coordination with the Ministry of Education; working with the Ministry of Tourism on the “Hima Trails” program; promoting renewable energy initiatives with the Ministry of Energy and Water; supporting agricultural development with the Ministry of Agriculture; combating illegal hunting with the Ministry of Interior; and partnering with the Ministries of Information and Culture to raise awareness, enhance creativity, and work with the Ministry of Environment to protect nature and designated reserves.

We hope to contribute meaningfully to the restoration of our human fabric, ensuring its stability and resilience, while creating productive job opportunities and fostering the much-needed awareness.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
