“Let’s Protect Nature by Combating Illegal Hunting” in Aley

Under the patronage of Mr. Wagdi Mourad, Mayor of Aley, and upon the invitation of Mr. Bassam Zain Al-Din, President of Walk and Discover Association, the Anti-Poaching Unit organized a seminar titled “Let’s Protect Nature by Combating Illegal Hunting” at the town’s Cultural Center.

The event was attended by around fifty participants, including environmental, social, and political figures, mayors, associations, artists, and nature enthusiasts. It was marked by active participation, responsible discussion, and calls for intensified awareness and efforts to combat illegal hunting to safeguard Lebanon’s future.

Speakers included:

  • Adonis Al-Khatib, Head of the Middle East Center for Sustainable Hunting and Field Coordinator for Responsible Hunting at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL);

  • Chérine Bou Rfoul, Head of the APU and Director of the Lebanon Office of CABS International (Committee Against Bird Slaughter);

  • Maroun Bou Rfoul, Field Investigator at APU and member of the CABS team in Lebanon.

By special invitation from the organizers, snake expert Mr. Ali Younes also participated, presenting several snake species and explaining the difference between venomous and non-venomous ones. The seminar concluded with an intervention by activist Farid Abi Younes, who discussed the environmental crisis affecting the Monk Seal Cave in Amchit.

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) has released the sixth issue of Al Hima magazine, focusing on the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi (October 8–15, 2025), where SPNL will join four key sessions. The issue features an exclusive interview with IUCN President Razan Al Mubarak, who emphasizes aligning IUCN’s work with global biodiversity agendas, governance, member responsiveness, multilateral engagement, ethical use of technology, and amplifying diverse voices.
