Nature Alert: Letter to an Enemy

  • In the summer of 2015, the EU Commission began considering whether to rewrite the vital laws that protect Europe’s wildlife and nature. They asked citizens what we think. And we let them know!
  • Over half a million Europeans told the EU to save our nature laws and make sure they work properly – following a major awareness raising campaign by Birdlife Europe, the European Environmental Bureau, Friends of the Earth Europe, WWF Europe and over 120 European NGOs.
  • But the campaign isn’t over – the Commission is keeping its options open and the future of laws that protect nearly a quarter of EU land is in doubt.
  • Here’s the story of the campaign so far. Follow us to see what happens next and find below the latest news.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
