During the IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Abu Dhabi, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) delegation met with Tim Badman, Head of the World Heritage Programme at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
In a dedicated discussion with Raghida Haddad, Editor of Al Hima magazine, Mr. Badman elaborated on the requirements and procedures for the designation of IUCN/UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Sites. He outlined the criteria for nomination, the evaluation mechanisms, and the collaborative process between IUCN, UNESCO, and national authorities to ensure the protection and sustainable management of sites of Outstanding Universal Value.
The insights and expert guidance shared by Mr. Badman will be featured in the upcoming issue of Al Hima magazine, offering readers a deeper understanding of the global framework that underpins the recognition and preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
Through such exchanges, SPNL continues to strengthen its partnerships within the international conservation community and advance Lebanon’s vision of linking nature, culture, and heritage under the Hima approach.
