SPNL Organizes a Hiking Activity for AUB Graduate Students in Baysour Hima

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), in collaboration with the Municipality of Baysour and Baysour Hiking Group, organized a hiking activity in the Baysour Hima – Tallah Trail. The event brought together graduate students and professors from the Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), as part of their annual field activity entitled:
“Hike for Olayan School of Business Graduate Students.”

The activity aimed to introduce master’s students to the concept of the Hima, a community-based and sustainable environmental approach that connects local communities with nature conservation, while also enhancing environmental awareness and social responsibility among future business leaders.

During the hike, professors and students explored the Tallah Trail within the Baysour Hima, discovering the area’s rich biodiversity and learning about the importance of preserving Lebanon’s natural resources and green landscapes. They were also introduced to SPNL’s “Hima Trails” initiative, which seeks to link Lebanon’s Hima sites and promote eco-tourism and sustainable local development.

Organizers emphasized that this activity highlights the importance of integrating environmental sustainability into higher education and modern management, noting that the Hima model offers a practical framework for balancing economic growth, environmental protection, and community well-being.

At the end of the hike, professors and students expressed their appreciation for this inspiring and educational experience, which combined adventure, learning, and reflection on Lebanon’s natural beauty. They affirmed that such initiatives help strengthen environmental awareness and social responsibility among youth, while fostering collaboration between academia and local communities.
