SPNL Welcomes Students to Hima Bayssour – Darb El Talleh for an Educational Eco-Experience

As part of its mission to foster environmental awareness among younger generations, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), in collaboration with Bayssour Municipality, welcomed a large group of students from WellSpring Learning Community to Hima Bayssour – Darb El Talleh for a unique educational and environmental field visit.

The visit aimed to introduce students to the Hima concept—a traditional community-based approach to the conservation of natural resources—and its vital role in protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable land use. Through their guided journey along the Hima trail, students explored local flora and fauna while learning about the ecological importance of Lebanon’s natural heritage.

Environmental guides provided hands-on explanations about ecosystem preservation, the challenges facing wildlife, and the value of sustainable practices. The experience also aligned with the “Schools Without Walls” (SNOW) Program, an experiential learning approach that brings education into natural settings to deepen students’ understanding through direct engagement with the environment.

This activity is part of the broader “Darb El Hima” program, which aims to reconnect young people with nature, cultivate environmental responsibility, and promote eco-tourism as a tool for sustainable development.

SPNL remains committed to empowering future generations through environmental education, community engagement, and the revitalization of Lebanon’s Hima heritage.
