Sunset Hike on the Hima Trail in Baysour

In a breathtaking blend of nature, sport, and awareness, the group I Hike organized a special eco-sports event titled “Sunset on the Hima Trail in Baysour”, offering nature lovers a peaceful hiking experience along one of Baysour’s most scenic trails overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from the village’s highlands.

A Scenic Hike Leading to a Magical Sunset

The group set off in the afternoon on a gentle hike along the Hima Trail, which is part of Baysour’s growing network of eco-trails dedicated to nature preservation and community engagement. Participants enjoyed the beauty of Baysour’s lush landscapes and forests, making their way to an elevated viewpoint that offered a breathtaking panorama—where the sea meets the mountains of the Chouf under the warm colors of the setting sun.

Spreading Awareness on Nature and the Hima Concept

In addition to enjoying the scenic walk, participants learned about the importance of Hima areas and eco-trails in preserving natural resources and promoting eco-tourism as a sustainable development tool for rural areas.

The event emphasized how such trails help reconnect people with nature while encouraging local communities—especially youth—to play an active role in protecting the environment and embracing eco-friendly practices.

I Hike: Blending Sport, Leisure, and Environmental Awareness

The I Hike group reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to organizing activities that combine sport, leisure, and environmental awareness, based on the belief that sustainable development begins with individual and community responsibility toward nature.

The event concluded on a positive note, with calls to continue such initiatives that showcase the beauty of Lebanon’s natural landscapes, promote a culture of hiking, and foster a deeper connection with the environment in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
