World Migratory Bird Day: the ultimate bi-annual celebration of the amazing endurance of migratory birds

Things kick off on Saturday 8 May 2021 with World Migratory Bird Day, the ultimate bi-annual celebration of the amazing endurance of migratory birds as they travel between their breeding and wintering grounds. The theme for WMBD 2021 is “Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird!”.

We’ve also joined forces with Global Birding, eBird and Swarovski Optik to participate in Global Big Day, the world’s biggest birdwatching and citizen science event, on May 8.

We will be running photo contests across the Americas, the Middle East, and the Central Asian Flyway. Plans are also underway to host webinars on the African-Eurasian and East-Asian Australasian Flyways. More details on regional events will be shared through your Regional Flyway Coordinators.

Last year, many Partners successfully reached out to new audiences through virtual events such as online lectures, webinars and even virtual birding trips. We strongly encourage all Partners to organise events of their own and register them on the WMBD website.

 

Al Hima Magazine 6th Issue

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) has released the sixth issue of Al Hima magazine, focusing on the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi (October 8–15, 2025), where SPNL will join four key sessions. The issue features an exclusive interview with IUCN President Razan Al Mubarak, who emphasizes aligning IUCN’s work with global biodiversity agendas, governance, member responsiveness, multilateral engagement, ethical use of technology, and amplifying diverse voices.
