How to Stop Poaching and Protect Endangered Species?

The Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) and the Middle East Center for Sustainable Hunting (MESHC) held a seminar on the reality of hunting in Lebanon and how to combat illegal hunting and poaching in order to protect nature and the pastime of hunting. The seminar was part of a series of “Mediterranean innovators for solidarity” funded by the European Union and the organization “Walk for Unity” represented by Mrs. Nada Halawe.

More than 40 participants, from heads of NGOs, hunters, environmental activists, bird watchers, scouts, members of the educational sector and the hunting tourism sector; interacted on the question with frankness and realism.

Videos were presented about the joint work of the unit with the Committee Against Bird Slaughter – CABS – to combat the slaughter of birds over the last four years and the things it has achieved in terms of awareness building and law enforcement in cooperation with the Public Relations Division of the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF).

The anti-poaching project in Lebanon is based on partnership and cooperation between MESHC and SPNL on the one hand, and between SPNL and the MSB – Migratory Soaring Birds Project funded by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the project to fight illegal hunting funded by MAVA, on the other hand.

Al Hima Magazine 4th Issue

This edition of Al-Hima is published amid conflict and displacement—a painful reality Lebanon knows well. Yet, the Lebanese people and SPNL remain resilient, supporting displaced families while advancing environmental and development goals.
