Strategic Environmental Assessment of Renewable Energy

SPNL , represented by the assistant director general Ms. Bassima Khatib, has participated in the national Strategic Environmental Assessment  (SEA) consultation workshop for the renewable energy sector in Lebanon that was organized on 24 October 2014 in Gefinor Rotana Hotel, Hamra.

The workshop included an overview about the SEA process, analysis of alternatives of renewable energy mix, SEA framework, and the main SEA results.

SEA has contributed to the process of developing the SEA document through review and insertion of bird and IBA concerns, especially at crucial bottlenecks. This included impacts from mainly Wind energy, solar and hydro power, on important bird areas and bottlenecks; thus suggesting relevant indicators, and mitigation measures.

This SEA process is a crucial step as it sets the next strategic steps on national basis in order to reach the proposed 12% of renewable energy by 2020, and the institutional and legal framework for implementation.
