Message from the Princess

Assad Serhal the Director General of SPNL (Birdlife Lebanon) received the following message from BirdLife’s Honorary President Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan:

Dear Assad

I hear from Patricia Zurita (BirdLife CEO) and then from Mr. Takuya Okada, a good friend, that you were to be a recipient of the MIDORI Prize.

Many congratulations. I am delighted that the dedication and commitment with which you have worked for the conservation of our environment has been recognized. Congratulations also to your team.

I always think that the publicity that comes with such an award gives us a good opportunity to showcase our work and to highlight the issues.

Having said that, there seems to be more and more that has to be done, so let us brace ourselves for an even bumpier road in the years to come! Teamwork and partnership is the key!

Princess Takamado

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
