World Migratory Bird Day in Hima Hammana

Within the Migratory Soaring Birds project, and in celebration of the World Migratory Bird Day, SPNL has implemented an event for tour operators. An outdoor day in Hima Hammana on Sunday 18 October 2020, where the Ministry of Tourism representatives participated as well. It started with a small breakfast and an overview of the Hima and Hima Farm concept, and a brief explanation of SPNL’s work; followed by a tour around the Hima Farm in Hammana.  After that, the participants had a hike to the Bird Observatory and the cedar forest in the Hima. Hima Hammana is located at the main bottleneck for migratory soaring birds during Autumn; thus constituting a great destination for bird watching especially soaring birds.

This field visit was complemented by a webinar on Tuesday 20th of October 2020, that presented SPNL work, Hima approach and programmes, and MSB project. This was followed by a presentation concentrating on the Hima to Hima ecotourism programme linking the Himas together from ecological & cultural values; Finally, an overview about best practices from the Tourism sector on MSBs was presented in addition to the unique location of Lebanon on the second most important flyway in the world which provides it with great potential as a destination for bird watching.
