Diplomats Celebrate Nature and Community in Hima Ras Al Matn

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) proudly commends the Al Matn Organisation for Environmental and Sustainable Development (MESD) for organizing an exceptional environmental and cultural event that brought together members of the diplomatic community to experience the beauty and spirit of the Hima model in Al Matn.

Over the weekend, a distinguished group of ambassadors and friends of nature enjoyed a guided hike through Hima Ras Al Matn, a community-managed conservation area that stands as a model of coexistence between people and nature. The distinguished guests included H.E. Sandra De Waele, Ambassador of the European Union; H.E. Kristoffersen Vivicke, Ambassador of Denmark; H.E. Frank Mollen, Ambassador of the Netherlands, and his wife Maire; H.E. Greg Galligan, Ambassador of Canada, and his wife Iman; H.E. Andrew Barnes, Ambassador of Australia; and Ms. Carol Zouein from the Makhzoumi Foundation.

The visit concluded with a traditional Lebanese brunch at LaBokra, hosted in the presence of Mayor Bassam Makarem, Deputy Mayor Rifaat Noueihed, Head of the Hima Committee Rafik Makarem, Friend to the Hima & Committee Member Omar Gharzeddine, and President of MESD Ghada Ghazal, whose vision and leadership made the event a resounding success. The day ended with a cultural visit to the Saloua Raouda Choucair Foundation, highlighting Lebanon’s artistic and cultural heritage.

“This event reflected the true essence of the Hima — partnership, community, and harmony with nature,” said  Rafik Makarem, DHead of the Hima Committee. “We applaud MESD for its remarkable initiative and thank the ambassadors for their commitment to Lebanon’s environmental and community causes.”

SPNL extends its heartfelt appreciation to MESD for its continuous efforts to promote environmental awareness, community participation, and sustainable development in Al Matn, and to the visiting ambassadors for their support and solidarity with Lebanon’s conservation movement.
