Fostering Environmental Stewardship: SPNL and TDH Launch Interactive Sessions at Mount Lebanon Hima Center

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) recently hosted TDH (Terre Des Hommes) at the Mount Lebanon Hima Center to launch a series of 12 interactive sessions focusing on environmental education and community development. The program, which commenced today, integrates SPNL’s successful SNOW (School with No Walls) program, offering innovative approaches to engage participants in meaningful activities that promote environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

As part of this initiative, SPNL is working on a comprehensive management plan to ensure the long-term success of these activities. A key feature of the sessions is the integration of visits to the Quranic Garden and Biblical Garden, where children will have the opportunity to learn about endangered plant species in a culturally and spiritually significant setting.

In addition, the program includes hands-on experiences at the plant nursery, where participants can engage directly with nature by planting and nurturing various species. These activities, modeled on the SNOW program’s experiential learning approach, are designed to foster a deeper understanding of biodiversity and encourage participants to play an active role in conservation efforts.

The sessions, enriched by SNOW’s focus on outdoor education, will address both environmental and community-based topics, creating a holistic learning experience for participants. By blending environmental education with practical, community-oriented initiatives, SPNL and TDH aim to inspire the next generation to champion the protection of nature and contribute to sustainable development in their communities.

This collaboration highlights SPNL’s commitment to empowering communities, preserving biodiversity, and fostering a culture of sustainability in Lebanon while further strengthening the SNOW program’s reach and impact.
