Hammana Cherry Festival 2022.. SPNL Support Local Initiatives

Through its continuous efforts to support local initiatives and promote sustainable cultural practices, SPNL under MAVA and CEPF projects has participated in the yearly traditional Hammana festival.

The festival included cherry-picking, a kid’s zone, authentic dishes, and an exhibition area to display and sell local and handmade products.

SPNL had a booth where it promoted the different interventions made under CEPF and MAVA “Cultural Landscape” project as part of the AMNC- Alliance for Mediterranean Nature and Culture, specifically the development of value chains and profitable cultural-based products such as honey, soap, thyme, herbal infusion, and jams, the strengthening of sustainable agricultural practices through the Hima farm and land stewardship program, and the promotion of environmental education and local community empowerment through Homat Al Hima capacity building program and SNOW – School with no Walls Programme.

SPNL also participated in the cherry-picking activity for children and adults at the cherry orchids in Hammana farms. This activity helped in linking people to nature and enjoying the beauty of fruit picking. One of the participants stated that: “The idea of picking from gardens has always been a dream since I live in Beirut”.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
