The 10th IUCN ROWA Regional Conservation Forum (RCF) will take place from 9 to 11 September 2024 in Riyadh, hosted by the State of Saudi Arabia and National Centre for Wildlife.
The RCF aims to provide IUCN Members (governments, NGOs, indigenous peoples’ organizations) with a platform to engage with each other, discuss and debate key conservation issues, and prepare for effective program planning and membership business. It also serves as
an opportunity to initiate discussions on regional participation in the next IUCN Congress 2025. Additionally, the RCF contributes to strengthening knowledge and networking for biodiversity conservation in the region. The forum uniquely prepares members for the Congress by discussing key deadlines, drafts of the IUCN Programme, and providing updates on the Motion process and the implementation of IUCN Resolutions and Recommendations.

In the lead-up to IUCN’s Regional Conservation Forums (RCFs) this year and in preparation for the 2025 World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, we are inviting and encouraging IUCN Members in West Asia to showcase their conservation initiatives on IUCN’s Contributions for Nature Platform.

The platform was launched in 2022 to allow IUCN Members to document where they are undertaking (or planning to undertake) conservation and restoration actions. The platform overlays data for biodiversity and for nature-based solutions to climate change to show the conservation impact of these efforts. This allows IUCN constituents to document their contributions to IUCN’s Nature 2030 Programme and by extension, to other environmental frameworks and agreements such as the Global Biodiversity Framework, the Paris Agreement, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All IUCN Members and other constituents are encouraged to use the platform to have a more comprehensive and representative vision of conservation impact of IUCN Members in the region and around the world in the run up to the RCFs and WCC.

We encourage you to read more about the benefits and objectives, explore the platform, read the FAQs, and consider documenting some of your organization or agency’s conservation initiatives. We aim to have 30 additional US and Canadian Members using the platform by the Regional Conservation Fora and want to count you among those Members. If you have further questions, please do let us know and we can assist you.

We look forward to your active participation in IUCN Contributions for Nature Platform. Your efforts are vital for the success of our regional and global conservation initiatives.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
