“Bahr Bala Plastic” project towards a plastic free Mediterranean Sea
Lebanese civil society and the European Union Delegation to Lebanon today launched a new environmental initiative tackling marine litter. The joint initiative is part of the “Bahr Bala Plastic” project, which aims at raising awareness about the dangers related to plastic and reducing its use. The “Bahr Bala Plastic” project is funded by the European Union and co-managed by the Lebanon Eco Movement and Lebanon Environment Forum.

Lecture about responsible hunting at Green Orient Camp 2019
Today SPNL participated in the Green Orient Camp 2019 which is held by Green Orient with the collaboration of Shouf Biosphere Reserve at Ain Zhalta.
Mr. Maher Osta of SPNL gave a lecture about responsible hunting and biodiversity, explaining to the participants why we hunt some bird species and preserve others, while explaining the Lebanese hunting law in detail, highlighting the differences between sustainable hunters and illegal poachers. The lecture was interactive and fun, and Mr. Osta answered all the questions that the participants asked him. Hoping for more of this interaction and sharing of knowledge in the near future.

CABS and SPNL prepares bird protection strategy for the upcoming autumn migration
Forging a way forward in Lebanon: this week, CABS members traveled to West Bekka, Lebanon to meet with our partners from Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (Birdlife Lebanon), Middle Eastern Sustainable Hunting Centre (MESHC) and the Association for Bird Conservation in Lebanon جمعية حماية الطيور في لبنان (ABCL). The purpose of the meeting was to agree on common goals and cement a fresh bird protection strategy for the upcoming autumn migration and open hunting season.

Arsal hosts “One Square Meter” Workshop
The One Square Meter is a needle-felt sculpture which creatively demonstrates, in tangible form, the link between mobile pastoralism and biodiversity. It is comprised of a knitted carpet (base) into which 20 – 30 different species of sculpted felt plants are woven – a visual representation of the fact that in One Square Meter of land where Mobile Pastoralism occurs in some rangelands, you can find up to 40 different species of plants. This is similar to rainforest diversity!
