Women Develop a Local Action Plan for Hima Anjar KfarZabad

Under the UN Women Fund for Gender Equality Project “Promoting Hima Women Empowerment for Conservation and Livelihood”, SPNL organized on September 10, 2013 the first workshop on the concept and development of a site local action plan, knowing that another complementary workshop will be organized on Friday September 20, 2013. The workshop took place in KfarZabad municipality, whereby 16 women from KfarZabad and Anjar participated.

The training workshop was of high importance since it united two villages who are of different cultures, languages, and traditions. Moreover, participatory approaches were used throughout the different stages of the workshop in order to make sure that women are more knowledgeable about the Hima approach and the strategic planning and management of the sites, and they are by themselves developing and analyzing the problem tree to reveal the main problems in the village, their roots, and effects.

Even though most of the participating women were of minimal education and no knowledge about protected areas and strategic planning, the training workshop was very significant and fruitful, by which women were very excited and eager for the second phase.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
