SPNL Unveils Lebanon’s One and Only Butterfly Garden

SPNL is delighted to announce the opening of Lebanon’s one and only Butterfly Garden—a unique sanctuary where nature, art, and conservation converge to create an inspiring destination for all who love the natural world.

A Garden Like No Other
Nestled in the heart of Lebanon, the Butterfly Garden offers visitors an immersive experience among vibrant wildflowers and graceful, fluttering butterflies. This garden is designed not only as a haven for these essential pollinators but also as an educational resource that highlights their critical role as bioindicators of environmental health. The beauty of the garden is matched only by its commitment to conservation, ensuring that both local flora and fauna can thrive.

“A Living Celebration of Nature”
Dr. Husein Zorkot, the visionary behind this project and renowned Lebanese Lepidopterist and Butterfly Gardener, explains, “Our Butterfly Garden is a living celebration of nature’s resilience and beauty. It reminds us that every butterfly and bloom plays an essential role in our ecosystem—helping pollinate our food crops and enrich our landscapes. We welcome everyone to come, learn, and experience the magic of these delicate creatures up close.”

What to Expect

  • Stunning Landscapes: Walk among wildflowers in full bloom—featuring an array of colors including blues, reds, yellows, and more.
  • Butterfly Encounters: Observe a diverse collection of butterflies in their natural habitat as they flit gracefully among the garden’s blossoms.
  • Educational Opportunities: Discover how butterflies serve as crucial pollinators and environmental bioindicators, ensuring the health of our ecosystem and the sustainability of our food supply.

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
