BirdLife International Middle East, in collaboration with the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), is organizing a webinar on 26 August 2025 at 12:00 PM Amman time to highlight the traditional HIMA approach as a successful model for linking nature conservation with community empowerment.
The HIMA system, rooted in Lebanese tradition, demonstrates how local communities can take a leading role in protecting biodiversity while enhancing livelihoods and fostering sustainable development. This interactive session will present six impactful HIMA programs that are driving tangible, on-the-ground change across Lebanon.
“Through the HIMA, we witness how reviving heritage-based conservation practices can address today’s pressing environmental challenges while empowering communities to become custodians of their natural resources,” said the organizers.
The webinar will bring together environmental experts, community leaders, and conservation practitioners from across the Middle East to exchange insights and explore ways of replicating the HIMA model in other regions facing similar ecological and social challenges.
