Hima Baysour – Talleh Trail welcomed members of the Free Thought Forum for an environmental hiking activity that combined outdoor recreation with nature exploration, as part of the Hima Trails initiative led by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL).
The activity offered participants an opportunity to discover the rich natural and cultural heritage of Baysour while learning about the importance of conserving the area’s ecosystems and natural resources. As they walked along the Talleh Trail, participants explored the landscape’s biodiversity, scenic viewpoints, and cultural landmarks, gaining a deeper appreciation of the close relationship between nature, heritage, and local communities.
The visit also introduced participants to the Hima approach—an indigenous, community-led conservation model that promotes the sustainable management of natural resources while strengthening the connection between people and nature through ecotourism, outdoor recreation, and local stewardship.
The Talleh Trail is one of the flagship routes developed under SPNL’s Hima Trails initiative. Originating from Hima Baysour, it has helped position the village as a leading destination for ecotourism and nature-based recreation, thanks to its diverse landscapes, panoramic views, and rich cultural heritage. Today, it attracts hikers, nature enthusiasts, and visitors seeking authentic experiences in Lebanon’s countryside.
The activity highlighted that hiking is more than a recreational sport—it is a powerful tool for environmental education, raising awareness about biodiversity conservation, and promoting the Hima model as an effective approach to protecting nature while supporting sustainable local development and responsible tourism.
Through the Hima Trails initiative, SPNL continues to develop and promote community-managed nature trails across Lebanon, creating opportunities for visitors to experience the country’s unique natural and cultural heritage while contributing to conservation efforts and strengthening local livelihoods.
