Hima Farm Heroes: Wassim El-Khatib

Director of Homat Al Hima International center (HHIC), which located in West Bekaa, the center is surrounded by thousands of agricultural land, and three main Himas (Kherbet Kanfar, Ain Zebdeh and Karaoun ). We had to create this Hima Center and farm to promote and help the local farmers.
We aim to create new opportunities inside the local community: handcraft work, local products shop, nursery…
During this period we are taking care of the center and all surrounding lands. Working to plant and pay attention to the trees in the center.  Also, in the nursery and the butterfly garden, we are giving attention to our seedlings, our butterflies and migratory birds.
Our mission in the Hima Farm is:
·         Helping and leading in publishing awareness for the local community
·         Protecting nature and reducing the use of the chemicals that negatively affect the nature and the environment
·         Preserving ancient agricultural practices: updating but without losing
HHIC team, is ready in this hard period to assist the local farmers and also to make our center a peaceful, beautiful place close to nature and far from the current situation.

Our Project now is to benefit from 6000 meter land provide to us from our partner West Bekaa Country Club , in planting many kinds of Vegetables and fruits to be a standard agricultural land for all hima farm

Al Hima Magazine 5th Issue

This edition of Al Hima magazine weaves together inspiring stories of nature conservation and community resilience, highlighting how Lebanon is being stitched back to life—one Hima at a time. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) continues its mission to preserve the country’s natural heritage by empowering local communities. A cornerstone of this effort is the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union, which has achieved three national firsts: Lebanon’s first natural park (Upper Matn), first geological park (Shouf-Jezzine), and first endowment Hima (Btekhnay).
