In a gesture reflecting a national commitment to preserving biodiversity in Lebanon, a businessman from the Keserwan region – who preferred to remain anonymous – has donated a four-wheel-drive vehicle to the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) to support its ongoing efforts in protecting resident and migratory birds and combating environmental violations related to illegal hunting.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the unit’s ability to respond swiftly and intervene effectively in various regions, particularly in remote and rural areas that require constant monitoring. The APU plays a vital role in protecting migratory birds passing through Lebanon during the migration seasons, in addition to safeguarding resident species facing increasing threats due to indiscriminate hunting and habitat destruction.
The unit’s president, operations director, and regional operations coordinator expressed their deep gratitude for this generous support, noting that such contributions reflect the growing community awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation. They emphasized that this vehicle would enhance monitoring and rapid response operations, enabling the team to detect violations and take the necessary legal actions against offenders.
The unit also stressed the need for cooperation between official entities, environmental organizations, and the local community to address the environmental challenges threatening Lebanon’s biodiversity. In this context, APU called on citizens and hunters to comply with established environmental laws and practice sustainable hunting in accordance with the applicable regulations to preserve ecological balance and ensure the continuity of wildlife for future generations.

About the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU)
The Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) was established to monitor and prevent illegal practices that threaten birds and wildlife in Lebanon. Through its trained field teams, the unit conducts awareness campaigns, monitors hunting areas, and coordinates with relevant authorities to enforce environmental laws, contributing to the protection of endangered species and the sustainability of ecosystems.
With the support of over 40 volunteers and activists, APU is actively implementing initiatives to combat illegal hunting. These efforts are made possible through the generous backing of the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation and the BioConnect project, funded by the European Union.
APU’s activities are carried out in close collaboration with BirdLife International, in partnership with the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) and the Middle East Sustainable Hunting Center (MESHC). Together, these organizations work to promote sustainable hunting practices, enforce wildlife protection laws, and safeguard Lebanon’s rich biodiversity.
The Anti-Poaching Unit is working closely with the Internal Security Forces of the Ministry of Interior, the Lebanese Army under the Ministry of Defense, as well as forest rangers at the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, federations of municipalities, municipal councils, and municipal police.
Call for Participation
The APU invites all individuals concerned with environmental and biodiversity conservation to support its efforts through various means, whether through in-kind donations or volunteering in field activities, to strengthen collective efforts in preserving Lebanon’s wildlife.
