Promoting Ecotourism and Sustainable Development through the “Hima Trails” Initiative

In the framework of promoting ecotourism concepts and sustainable development, Gungle Gym Fitness Center, in coordination with Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), organized a distinctive sports and environmental activity as part of the “Hima Trails” program, bringing together physical activity, nature exploration, and environmental awareness.

This initiative highlighted the importance of natural trails as vital spaces that combine recreation and knowledge. It provided participants with a unique opportunity to discover the beauty of the Lebanese countryside and explore its rich environmental and cultural heritage. The activity aimed to shed light on ecotourism and rural tourism as essential pillars of sustainable development, emphasizing their role in supporting local communities and stimulating rural economies.

Participants embarked on a scenic trail passing through several villages in the Aley District, where landscapes varied between forests, valleys, and agricultural lands, offering a rich and immersive environmental experience. One of the key stops was the town of Majdaliya, where the group was warmly welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. Louay Matar, and members of the municipal council, who were commended for their hospitality.

During the visit, the Mayor delivered a welcoming speech, introducing the town’s history, traditions, and cultural identity, while highlighting its key local resources. The initiative was met with positive engagement from participants, reflecting its value in strengthening connections between visitors and host communities.

The activity then continued in a vibrant and interactive atmosphere, concluding at Qadi Bridge.

This initiative stands as a successful model of collaboration between sports clubs and environmental organizations to promote environmental awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle rooted in positive interaction with nature, ultimately benefiting individuals, communities, and the environment alike.
