Fruitful Meetings in Beb Mareh and Hima Fekheh Strengthen Community-Based Conservation Efforts

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) held two productive meetings in the Bekaa region, reinforcing its commitment to expanding the Hima approach and strengthening partnerships with local authorities and communities.

Introducing the Hima Concept in Beb Mareh

SPNL representatives met with the Mayor of Beb Mareh to introduce the Hima concept as a community-based model for sustainable natural resource management.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the importance of protecting biodiversity, promoting responsible land use, and integrating conservation efforts into municipal planning. The Hima model, rooted in traditional stewardship principles, was presented as a practical framework that empowers local communities to safeguard their natural heritage while supporting rural development opportunities.

The Mayor expressed interest in exploring collaboration pathways that would align environmental protection with local socio-economic priorities.

Meeting at Hima Fekheh to Present SPNL’s Work

SPNL also convened a meeting in Fekheh, within the Hima Fekheh site, to introduce its conservation initiatives in the area. The session highlighted ongoing efforts in biodiversity protection, eco-tourism development, community engagement, and sustainable land management.

Participants discussed the ecological significance of the region and the role of local stakeholders in ensuring long-term conservation success. SPNL emphasized that effective environmental protection depends on strong partnerships with municipalities, farmers, youth, and community leaders.

Strengthening Local Partnerships

Both meetings underscored the importance of inclusive local governance and collective action in advancing sustainable development. By fostering dialogue and shared responsibility, SPNL continues to expand the Hima network across Lebanon, building resilient communities that are actively engaged in protecting their land and natural resources.

SPNL reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with municipal authorities and community members in Beb Mareh and Fekheh to develop tailored conservation strategies that combine environmental protection with sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Through these engagements, the Hima approach continues to serve as a bridge between tradition and modern conservation, empowering communities to become true guardians of their environment. 🌿
