A rare bird may become extinct in Syria because of the capture of Palmyra by Islamic State, experts say. A tiny breeding colony of the northern bald ibis – a critically endangered species – was found near the city in 2002. Only one female returned from the wintering grounds in spring 2013.

CEPF Mid-term Assessment Regional Meeting in Ulcinj

CEPF mid-term assessment of the Mediterranean Basin Biodiversity Hotspot has been initiated since January 2015. This involved National Assessments with 186 participants from all 11 eligible countries of the hotspot; a Stakeholder Survey in 4 languages for all stakeholders in the Med programme, receiving 116 responses.

On the Move Keeps Moving

After a successful stay at the Botanical Gardens in Madrid, On the Move made two stops in Asturias, Spain. The first was in the Ecomusuem of Villaviciosa from the 10th of April – 3rd of May, and the second was in the Palacio Florez Estrada in Somiedo from the 8th – 24th of May, where the exhibition was welcomed by locals and visitors alike. We would like to thank all the volunteers in Asturias for making that happen!.
